What skill level is required for Macro Nature Photography workshop?
This workshop is suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced photographers. We will cover both basic and more advanced macro photography techniques.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes! Workshops are for no more than 2 people, so booking in advance to avoid disappointment is recommended. Your booking will be confirmed via email once we a 30% deposit has been paid.
What equipment should I bring?
A DSLR or mirrorless camera with a macro lens.
Can I still Do The Workshop Without A Camera or Macro Lens?
Yes, you can! If you don’t have a DSLR or mirrored camera with a macro lens you can either rent a Nikon DSLR with Sigma 105mm macro lens. If you have a Nikon camera, but no macro lens, you can rent just the macro lens on its own. Unfortunately at this time we don’t have macro lenses other than for the Nikon DSLR range.
How long is the workshop?
The workshop typically lasts between approximately 3 1/2 hours, including a short break for refreshments.
What kind of subjects will we photograph?
We’ll focus on what we see, which will be mainly insects, butterflies, maybe lizards or snakes and if we are lucky, flowers too (depending on the time of year).
Is there much walking on the Macro Nature Photography workshops?
Yes! We could cover two or three kilometres on uneven trails on some workshops, but 500meters on another. It all depends on what Mother Nature presents us with!
How fit do I need to be?
Nature macro photography workshops can be quite physically demanding. In terms of mobility, subjects are often down low to the ground, so the ability to get up and down with relative ease is recommended.
Do I get to keep my photos??
Yes! If you rent a camera, it will be set to save photos in both RAW & jpg formats. Ideal for people who want to have a go at editing their photos and for those who may just like to share them without ediing. Your photos will be sent to your via a downloadable link a few days after your workshop.
If you use your own camera, I recommend you also set your camera to save the photos as RAW & jpgs.
Will I get feedback on my photos?
Yes! We will review and discuss selected images throughout the workshop to help you improve your technique. If there are any technique questions you would like to ask after the workshop I will be contactable via email for guidance.
What if the weather is bad for a nature photography workshop?
If conditions are unsuitable for macro photography, ie too windy or raining, the workshop will be cancelled with the options to either move the booking to another available date or to get a full refund.
Are macro nature workshops available to book all year round?
No. At this time workshops run from April until October
Do I need to bring my own food and water?
Yes, we recommend bringing snacks and a bottle of water.
What clothing should I wear?
We might not always be in the shade so a hat is highly recommended hat as are sturdy shoes as the trails are rough. Other than that whatever clothing you feel most comfortable in. Don’t forget the subjects will be close to the ground, so not your Sunday best!
Don’t forget to bring sunscreen too!
Do you provide transportation?
Unfortunately at this time we are unable to provide transport to the start of the hikes. Meeting point coordinates will be via Google Maps coordinates or What Three Words.

How long are the hikes?
Group hikes are around 8km – 10km in length and should take approximately 4 hours to complete, depending what we see along the way! We do offer the option to book a privately led hike, where we can be flexible with the hike difficulty and the distance.
How difficult are the hikes?
We offer a range of hikes from easy to not so easy. Each hike is rated for difficulty, and we can advise you if a hike is suitable for your level of fitness.
What should I bring for the hike?
Comfortable hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, and a camera or phone for capturing things we see along the way!
Are there any age restrictions?
Most hikes are suitable for ages 12 and up, but some more challenging routes may require a higher fitness level.
Do we need to book in advance?
Yes! We want to keep the hikes as immersive and enjoyable as possible so we keep the hikes to six people. Booking in advance to avoid disappointment is recommended.

Can I book a private hike?
Yes! Get in touch and we can discuss leading a private hike.
What if we have more than six people who want to hike?
That’s not a problem if we know in advance. Please get in touch to make arrangements.
What might we see on our hikes?
Depending on the time of year and where we hike really. The flora changes throughout the year, but in spring and early summer we should see some beautiful spring flowers.
The beautiful insects will be in abundance once summer gets going, and there are lizards and maybe even a snake!.. And let’s not forget the birds!
Will we see historical or cultural sites?
Our hikes are nature focused, so if you are interested in historical or cultural sites the our hikes aren’t for you.
Do you provide transportation?
Unfortunately at this time we are unable to provide transport to the start of the hikes. Meeting point coordinates will be via Google Maps coordinates or What Three Words.
What if a hike has to be cancelled due to unfavourable weather?
If conditions are unsuitable for hiking; ie raining, too windy and even too hot, the hike will be cancelled with the options to either move the booking to another available date or to get a full refund.
Do I need to bring my own food and water?
Yes, we recommend bringing snacks and a bottle of water.
Are hikes available to book all year round?
Not quite. Due to the summer heat hiking packages will not be available in July and August.
